Blackbird

Posted by Marcy on 2.16.2007

Recently I've fallen in love with the song Blackbird. Particularly the version recorded by Sarah McLachlan. Although I am a big Beatles lover.

The simple yet difficult guitar line, the pounding beat, and the repetitive lyrics... It may not sound like the perfect mixture, but there's something about a great melody that just sticks in your brain.

The lyrics are metaphoric and uplifting. It's just incredible. It's hard to believe that the Beatles wrote something so poetic.

Blackbird singin' in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Blackbird singin' in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly
Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark, black night

Blackbird fly
Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark, black night

Blackbird singin' in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Take the Dead German Composer Test!

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is the epitome of the Classical period, and was indeed the influence for most other composers of the time. He was extremely prolific, writing many works in all genres. Not to mention he was a prodigy of the most disgusting sort -- his first piece was composed at the age of four. And yet for all these amazing qualities, he was something of an immature jerk.

Wow.

So I'm back in Tampa. I sit in front of the piano this morning... and...

... I sound like I've never played before. :-(

This is how you say: ecstasy.

GHS Wind Ensemble - Galop (If I'm remembering correctly, haha)

GHS Jazz Combo - Build Me Up; Buttercup! (Featuring an awesome vocalist!)

Sara Wilkins - Pampeana No.2 (Sara owning before she goes out to the world to dominate.)

April Dudash - Libertango (April tangoing it up. Piazzolla; so hot right now.)

My happiness is simple. :-D

Is anyone else pissed off at the insane amount of bands today that have lead singers (who are males) sounding like little girls? Is it weird that older man can sing higher pitches than me, a young female?

I could sit here all day and list bands with annoyingly high pitched vocals but the winner of this girly fest is by far Coheed and Cambria. I'm sorry but the first time I heard them I seriously asked out loud if the singer was female because I really couldn't tell. Seriously. No joke. Even after seeing the music video, I still can't believe my eyes. But I will give them some credit because they have killer guitars compared to say... FOB.

The worst part of all this (and the most ironic part) is that I actually like listening to all these bands with whinny vocals. I like Anberlin, Motion City Soundtrack, The Darkness, etc. Hopefully this phase will pass. I guess it's an understandable side effect from wearing girly jeans. Hopefully that emo phase will pass too because it looks realllly uncomfortable for boys.

So that last post was a bit disturbing, wasn't it?

This is what happens when you leave a girl in the room with a mic.

It's alright since only Marcy and I read this.

What is your musical pet peeve?

Mine is wannabe singers who can't carry a key.
